Same Sex Marriage in a Modern Society

I remember back on March 7, 2000 when Californians voted yes on Proposition 22. This initiative was to prevent California from recognizing same sex marriage. The proposition stated California would legally recognize marriage between a male and a female. Back then, Conservative Republican Senator Peter Knight and a host of Conservative Christian groups were behind the initiative. Mr. Knight literally stripped law-abiding, tax paying citizens of their civil and human rights. His initiative removed the right to make sound choices that are conducive to our lives.

A few years back, we celebrated the courage of San Francisco’s Mayor Gavin Newsom and many other courageous leaders around the country. These leaders took a stand on same sex marriage simply because they felt it was right and just. This is the first time in history when so many cities and public officials have stood for what is right and what is moral. Because of this great courage, there are many same sex newlyweds! I am proud to say, this year I will be celebrating the two year anniversary of my own marriage!

In the midst of all the joy and celebrations, President Bush proposed a Federal Marriage Amendment to restrict the union of marriage to a male and female! This makes a loud statement to the World that same sex couples and their families will not be accepted or treated as equals in this country. This is blatant amplified discrimination.

There are many people and organizations that oppose same sex marriage. The main argument is that same sex unions will threaten and weaken the institution of traditional marriage. Same sex unions will supposedly destroy the family structure! Family structure? Again I am stocked that our country is being lied to and mislead.

In my opinion extramarital affairs and dishonesty weaken the institution of marriage. Bigamy, spousal abuse, child molestation have weakened the institution of marriage. Marriage for citizenship, fame, or sex has weakened the institution of marriage. Biblical interpretations and murder for insurance benefits have weakened the institution of marriage. Who wants to marry a millionaire! I could go on and on with examples of how America’s values have not only weakened the institution of marriage, they have destroyed it! Same sex marriage has absolutely nothing to do with heterosexual marital dysfunction.

The traditional family has gone through an enormous transformation. The divorce rate continues to skyrocket, and the reality of unwed mothers has become the norm. Because of these facts, I would think this country has more important issues to tackle instead of restricting the basic right of marriage. Healthcare, social security, affordable housing for everyone and the national deficit need much more attention!

I clearly remember back on March 18, 2004, I attended a rally organized by the National Black Justice Coalition. The purpose of the rally was to challenge the Mayor of Los Angeles to formally fight the Federal Marriage Amendment. Politicians, religious leaders, activist and many organizations attended this historic event. We took a stand for what we believe is right and just. Our basic civil and equal rights.

What rights many ask? Some of those rights are the right to medical decision making for your partner when she can’t, the right to family medical leave or inheritance. The right to make funeral arrangements is absolutely imperative!

There are many leaders who support these basic rights. One of those fearless warriors was Coretta Scott King. Mrs. King spoke out against the Federal Constitutional Amendment prohibiting same sex marriage. Mrs. King stated, Gay and lesbian people have families, their families should have legal protection, whether by marriage or civil union. A Constitutional Amendment banning same sex marriage is a form of gay bashing, and it would do nothing at all to protect traditional marriages.

The Faded Light of the Gospel in the West and Its Devastating Consequences on Western Societies

Right there with the dog, history is one of man’s best friends; and certain matters of any age would never be fully understood without their proper historical perspective. In this same vein, the uncanny fading of the gospel’s light in Western societies cannot be fully comprehended without its proper historical perspective. During the medieval period, the Christian Church was the principal agency of formal learning in Europe. This was mainly due to the massive, wholesale destruction of the Western Roman Empire and the surreal decline that unfolded upon the earth in its aftermath. However, towards the end of the middle ages, things began to change. The rise of the Renaissance engendered a fresh stream of historical currents that turned the tide of things against Christianity. The feverish revival of learning in Europe took the transmission of knowledge out of the hands of the Christian Church and handed it to secular institutions unfriendly to the cause of the gospel’s message of love and brotherhood. One thing led to another, and the world has never been the same ever since. The Renaissance gave birth to the Enlightenment period-a dramatic, historical watershed-which lasted somewhere between 1650 and 1800. While historians disagree on the exact time span of this mysterious period of European history; they all lost sight of the fact that this tenebrous period of history has never really ended, as so much of postmodern life today reflects the very essence of this strange historical time.

The Enlightenment Age’s focus on changing human society through fresh knowledge and sober dialogue based on reason snatched control of societal thought from the Christian Church. The people who spearheaded this trenchant movement were called philosophes. These evil societal engineers had a different type of society in mind from the one envisioned by the God of the Bible. They realized that, if they could remove the Bible from the dynamic market square of ideas and replace it with a humanistic approach to molding society, they could essentially transmute it into whatever they had mind.

Virtually all historians have missed this delicate nuance about the Enlightenment Age. The atheistic philosophes had made deadly accurate assumptions; and slowly and surely, things began to shift in the exact order that these deists and occult artists had envisioned. The fulgent light of the gospel slowly but surely began to fade. In the meantime; these clever, vulpine societal architects engineered the French Revolution, one of the worst killing sprees in human history. They virtually destroyed all of Europe’s monarchies, promising a better way of life to its peoples. Even Robespierre, an occult operative from the pictorial showroom of the philosophes’ evil genius, tried to rid French society of Christianity by introducing his own brand of false religion called “The Cult of the Supreme Being Church!.” Though Robespierre was brashly removed from the scene; his perverse, devilish ideas have lived on even to this day.

The renaissance also inspired another critical historical period that somewhat coincided with the Age of Enlightenment. This powerful, epochal period was the industrial revolution in Europe. It started in England, and then spread to the rest of Europe and eventually to North America. As a result of the rabid activity of modern science, a stream of inventions produced an avalanche of amenities. The discovery of coal as an energy source and the invention of the steam engine transformed life in Europe; turning that continent into a titanic, urban industrial powerhouse; thus eclipsing the advancement of the Moslem civilization to the east. As these pulsating urban centers became dynamic hubs of employment and powerful population magnets, they triggered the greatest demographic migration pattern in history. People began leaving rural areas and moving to cities in droves; and within a short time, most people in Europe and North America lived in cities. With this mammoth population shift came dramatic sociological changes, creating a phenomenal urban power system fueled by rapid urban industrial growth. The new immigrants were quickly indoctrinated with the philosophy of the dashing philosophes.

They left their Christian table manners at home in the countryside and quickly adapted to urban ways.

One of those ways was a blunt snubbing and rejection of the Christian thought system and culture; and, within a very short period of time, things began to change very dramatically. The mushrooming growth of sodomy and prostitution gave way to a rash of alternative lifestyles. Western civilization was transformed from a Christian culture to a pagan band of men and women.

Initially, the societal taboos held fairly steady and America continued to fund the gospel. Periodically, there were glimpses of heaven, particularly in the American Bible Belt. Great preachers and faith healers emerged during this period, lasting anywhere from the late nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century. Then America began to change course. It too began to snub the gospel message. Around this same time; many philosophes, bent on destroying the Christian Church, camouflaged as Christians and started Christian churches that denied virtually all the core principles of the Bible. This movement started around 1949 and has picked up pace ever since. Accordingly, American Christianity became synonymous with hypocrisy and gimmickry. Phony, celebrated pastors, clad in purple and fine linen, cavalierly promise their parishioners heaven–and all of earth as well. Their rags to riches sermons, replete with guile and falsehood, filled the itching ears of churchgoers with the exact music that they want to hear. These cruel, edacious pastors promised pew warmers things that not even God himself would deliver; and, within the space of half an hour, the offering basket had made its twentieth round in the service. When all has been said and done, these slippery pastors have done more damage to the Christian message than the harshest Moslem regime in the world. Parishioners left their services more emotionally bruised and morally bankrupt, busted, and disgusted than when they came. In the final analysis, after all the games and gimmickry, no one has had a genuine change of heart; no one has gotten any closer to Jesus than the root of a tree. And today, people leave these services broke, confused, and lost in a world where meaning and truth are in very short supply. At the same time, these purse-snatching philosophes (sham preachers) walk away scot-free and Christianity’s real virtues get lost in the smoke of all this charade. It ought to be made abundantly clear that false Christianity must not be confused with the pure truth of the Bible. The lifestyle of dark, corrupt people who opt to toy with God must not be beclouded with the truth of the Bible.
